wheres the best place to fish for trout in northern California?
me and my dad want to go have a good time catchin trout. where should i go from bakersfeild to the border af california? THANKS!!
Starting in Bakersfield I would go to the Kern River without a doubt. Lots of good trout fishing above Lake Isabella on the river and the streams that feed it. I’ve spent lots of time up there and never been disappointed. Fun area to go and explore with places to fish with easy and more difficult access.
The best trout fishing I have experienced in Calif. is on the Sacramento River between the town of Anderson and into the city limits of Redding. It is a wild trout area so there are strict limits and regulations, but well worth it. The water is ice cold and clear year round, coming from lake Shasta. I have had 50 fish days there, catch and release. 3 pound fish common, and when you see these fish you know why they are called Rainbow Trout. I get excited talking about this area.
Close by there is lake Alamanor. Good trout and general fishing lake, it is known for Small Mouth bass also. Around the area and the town of Chester, there are many streams and the upper end of the Feather river. This is another area to go to and explore, talk to some of the locals, and pick up a forest service map. There are many old logging roads that will give you access to the river. There is not heavy fishing pressure on this area which makes it nice, and the scenery is beautiful.
One last area is the Yuba river outside of Sacramento. Again this is a large area but offers the river and many feeder streams. Again a fun area to go and explore and you can usually find trout. I enjoy the hunt for places to fish as I do the actual fishing and catching fish.
